Highly Erodible Soils Standard Drawings

These drawings show the silt fence as buried 8” deep instead of 6” deep. The 6” depth works fine for 90% of the soils encountered. I hesitated to offer these because I did not want to encourage overkill and extra costs when it is not necessary. Use the 8” depth specification with discretion.

Drawing Name Shorthand

The method that we use to label our standard drawings is:

  1. The type of Fence; ie Silt Fence, Safety Fence
  2. The numbers following Silt Fence state the height of the fence above the ground and the depth of the fabric below the ground; ie Silt Fence 16-6 would be silt fence 16” above the ground with 6” of the fabric buried.
  3. The length and type of post; 32w = 32” wood stake, 48t = 48” t-post,
  4. 4. Wireback Silt fence; ie. The maximum opening of the fence followed by the gauge of the fence. 6x6-14.5 Wire = 6”x6” mesh – 14.5 gauge woven wire.
